PRCA publishes new General Election Guidance for Public Affairs professionals

The Public Relations and Communications Association (PRCA), the trade industry for public relations, communications and public affairs, has today published its General Election Guidance for members engaged in public affairs activity in advance of the UK General Election on 4 July 2024.

Many public affairs professionals will want to be personally involved in the election, whether as a candidate or being involved with a political party. It is important that professional and party roles are not blurred, in order to avoid potential conflicts of interest. PRCA’s guidance is aimed specifically at members listed on its Public Affairs Register and adhering to the PRCA Public Affairs Code. It aims to provide clarity and support to professionals who work to influence government decisions or advise others on how to do so during this critical period.

PRCA CEO, James Hewes, said:

“Elections are a pivotal time for public affairs professionals. Our guidance not only provides clear instructions on compliance and ethical practices but also reinforces our commitment to transparency and accountability in all public affairs activities. This ensures that our members can confidently go through the complexities of the election period while upholding the highest ethical standards.”
